9/24/17 | Meeting Summary
Board Meeting
During the board meeting we went right into discussing what we can do this year. The community service chairs brought ideas like working with the New England Organ Foundation, Lexington Cricket League, a Preschool that provides large scholarships/a free education to those in need, the Lexington Community Diwali Party, and Birthday Wishes. The ideas that we decided were feasible and would like to look into are the Lexington Cricket League, Birthday Wishes, and the Diwali Party. By next meeting, we hope to come up with an idea for fundraising (most probably a bake sale) and have more details on the other two ideas. The social chairs hope to get the entire group to minigolf, but they need to make sure that we can find an indoor location that can accommodate the group. Additionally, the chairs mentioned that they were going to send out an availability form to establish a date/time for mini golf and for other events in the future. The coordinator had the idea to bring in an Indian man from Belmont who is running for Senate. Other board members also gave him the idea of bringing in a large hedge fund manager/entrepreneur and the President of the South Asian Bar Association. By next meeting, we want to get more details on all three and hopefully see who would be willing to come in. We are also considering starting the board meeting at 4:30 so that we can cover more in the meetings.
General Meeting
In the group meeting we did an icebreaker with starbursts and also a round of two lies and a truth. Then we talked about a few of our goals for this year
Be accountable as a group - this year we hope to have more people participating and responding to messages and format that the board sends out
Getting RSVPs by Friday to make things easier for the adults who order food
Engagement - being at the meeting is one thing, but being both mentally and physically present is another.
Then we discussed some of the ideas that we brought up in the board meeting and got some new ideas for the group. For community service we came up with: disaster relief fundraising, raffles (to make money for charities/projects), runs/walks for awareness, and soup kitchen/food pantry. For social events, we came up with mini golf, sky zone, and having another basketball tournament or a ping pong tournament. We finished off the meeting by watching a video on overcoming adversity, and as a group, we had a short discussion about how we overcome obstacles.
