Creativity and Artistry for a Cause
My interest in organ donation started when I was very young, When I was living in India and went to see the ophthalmologist for an eye check, I got a chance to wander in the waiting area, where saw many posters regarding eye donation. One poster was particularly meaningful, it spoke about donating your eyes after you are dead and helping a blind person see. Even though I was only 6 donating your eyes, seemed like a no brainer to me. As I grew, this passion continued and at IAYG we helped further the cause, the team made some very creative and catchy posters.
As part of the community service initiative the board was presented with many different options as we carefully picked two that would be impactful. We then got down to making posters to help spread the word.
One of the reasons we decided to support organ donation were the staggering statistics that we could help improve. Every day in the US 20 people die waiting for an organ transplant and every 10 minutes a new person is added to the organ waiting list. While 95% of the population think that organ donation is a good idea only 34% sign up to be organ donors. Through our posters, we tried to raise awareness of organ donation.
The other great cause selected, was support for children impacted by AIDS. We created posters to help people know about a group called Agape International that is doing tremendous work in India. They provide more than 250 children impacted by AIDS a family-style home, nutritious meals, medical care and an education.
IAYG has members from various towns in Massachusetts and the posters have now been put up in schools and community centers across the state. Here are photographs of some of the posters created by the group, the thought and effort put into them are impressive.
