10/15/17 | Meeting Summary
Board Meeting
During the board meeting, the first thing we did was go over an issue many of the board members have been facing: accountability and responsiveness among members and members of the board. These were key goals of the group’s for the year, so we plan to follow up and continue this discussion going forward. Our social chairs were able to finalize a date––November 5th––after sending out several emails and forms to figure out what date we would get the best turnout on. Additionally, we discussed bringing in a speaker. Shiva Ayyadurai, an Indian American running for senate, has been in touch with our coordinator, and he has agreed to come to a meeting and speak to the group. We discussed how we want to structure this meeting. We decided that one thing we really wanted was to have a good amount of time dedicated to Q&A. Our community service chairs discussed the ideas that they had, and we decided that we wanted to pursue making posters for the NE Organ Foundation and making Birthday Boxes. The due date for the pieces of the Birthday Boxes is on November 19th, and we decided that we would make the posters during the following meeting in December.
General Meeting
IWe started off our general meeting with an icebreaker about what it means to be Indian. We then went over our large goal for the year again––Accountability. The social chairs talked about the social event on November 5th, and they mentioned that if it does rain, we will move the event from McGolf to Launch. Our coordinator informed the group that Shiva Ayyadurai will be coming to speak at our next meeting. As a group, we decided that we would like him to focus on his experience as an Indian in American politics. Our community service chairs mentioned that next meeting we will be collecting materials for birthday boxes and that an email will be going out to remind people of the October 21st volunteer opportunity to help set up a Diwali party. Additionally, we talked about potentially participating in an awareness walk, making posters for NE Organ foundation, and decided that a good location for the bake sale will be Coolidge Corner. We also discussed the idea of making some sort of social media platform for the group. In the end, we decided against it because we did not think that it would attract a large enough outside audience.
