11/19/17 | Meeting Summary

Board Meeting

The first thing that the board went over was the agenda for the general meeting. We decided that we wanted to start with collecting the items people and brought for the Birthday Boxes, then talk about accountability, and then introducer speaker. We then discussed our own accountability. It had become apparent to many people that certain roles were being put on a few people, who in turn, were being forced to carry the entire group on their own. We talked about how as a board, it is really important that we set an example for the rest of the group and about whether Google Forms were the most effective and easy way for us to get RSVPs and such. After talking through other ideas, we decided to stick to the Google Forms. Our community service chairs also discussed the posters that the group plans to make in December for the New England Organ Foundation and another Boston-based organization that supports communities in India. We also talked about potentially doing something with The New Sikh Temple, and maybe going there with ingredients to cook a meal during a meeting in the spring as another community service project. We concluded the board meeting by talking about how we hoped to steer the conversation away from politics and towards his experience as an Indian running for American office.

General Meeting

As planned on in the board meeting, we started off by going over the Birthday Boxes. We then talked about accountability and how it is important that people respond to forms. The board opened the announcement up to a discussion to see if any of the group members had any ideas to make attendance and such easier and more streamlined. The general feedback was that we try to get the forms out on the Saturday before the meeting, so people can ask their parents over the weekend. Unfortunately, we then found out that around 2PM, our coordinator had gotten an email from Shiva Ayyadurai saying that he could no longer make it to our meeting. The group took this as a lesson to see what it is like for the board when we don’t have responses last minute. We also opened a discussion about our thoughts about the speaker’s last minute cancellation. Since we did not have anything else planned, the group turned on the Patriots game and played games for the rest of the meeting.
