2/25/18 | Meeting Summary

Board Meeting:

Since college tends to be a topic that causes lots of anxiety, we decided that we would host a Q&A panel at the 4/1 meeting with three seniors from the board who have been through the college process. After much discussion, we chose not to include parents in this part of the meeting because we felt that the presence of parents may deter people from asking questions. The 4/1 meeting will start off with Keshav’s mom, a psychology professor at Boston College who focuses her research on South-Asians, and then we will have the panel. For community service, the chairs talked about handing the posters we made back to the group and having them hang them up. The chairs hope to get picture of people with their posters and write an article about it. We also discussed the upcoming board elections, as the April 1st meeting will also be the day that we will welcome the new board. The social chairs talked about how they hope to host another social event in April, and they later talked to the entire group about what activity we would like to do. The group also decided that we will be using left over money to rent a venue for the 4/1 event and for a social/final event at the end of the year.

General Meeting:

We started off with a summary of what we talked about in the board meeting and announced that there would be a speaker and panel at the 4/1 meeting. The group wrote down questions that they have about the college process for the panelists to answer at the next meeting. After the social chairs opened up a discussion and vote regarding the activity for our social event, it was decided that we would be going bowling in late April. The community service chairs handed back the posters that we made a couple months ago, and members will be hanging them up around their towns/schools. Before moving into the lesson for the meeting, each board member gave a brief job description of their role as applications/acceptances for the board will be sent out between this meeting and the 4/1 meeting. We continued our discussion about automatic and nonautomatic tasks that we added another layer to the achievement equation (achievement=effort times skill): attitude.
